Hurricane experts available for interviews as hurricane season begins

NOAA’s National Hurricane Center (NHC) will host a Media Day

Monday, June 1, to mark the start of the 2026 Atlantic Hurricane season.

At 11:00 a.m. EDT, a press briefing will take place at the National Hurricane Center. This session will emphasize the critical nature of seasonal readiness and showcase the collaborative efforts between the NHC and its partners to safeguard communities. Various NOAA professionals, including NHC leadership, hurricane and storm surge specialists and federal and local representatives, will be available for media inquiries. Joining NHC Director Dr. Michael Brennan will be Robert Fenton, Senior Official Performing the Duties of the FEMA Administrator, Pete Gomez, Miami-Dade Emergency Management Department Director, Clay Pacheco, Broward County Office of Emergency Management Director, and RDML Adam Chamie, U.S. Coast Guard Commander of the Southeast District.

This year, the NHC is prioritizing community-level risk awareness and readiness. Additionally, the center will provide updates to its tropical forecast products. Media representatives are invited to capture b-roll of the operations center or conduct live broadcasts from the site.

All interview and filming sessions require advance booking. To secure a 15-minute window, please reach out to Maria Torres by Friday, May 29, at 4:00 p.m. EDT.
