NEWARK, NJ – The US Marshals Service, New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force (NY/NJ RFTF), along with the New Jersey State Police Canine Unit and the Woodbridge Police Department, arrested a fugitive who had fled Puerto Rico where he was wanted on homicide charges.
Juan Alberto Bordonada-Laureano, 30, was wanted on a homicide and illegal weapons warrant in the municipality of Arecibo, Puerto Rico. The charges are related to a shooting incident that occurred in February 2026. Through an extensive investigation the Puerto Rico Police Department, Arecibo Criminal Investigation Unit (CIC), in coordination with the U.S. Marshals Puerto Rico Violent Fugitive Task Force (PRVOTF) determined that the fugitive had moved to the state of New Jersey.
On March 11, in the early morning hours, U.S. Marshals and NY/NJ RFTF officers coordinated and executed an operation aimed at locating and arresting Bordonada-Laureano, who was hiding at a residence in Keasbey, where he was arrested without incident.
He is currently being held at the Middlesex County Jail, pending transfer to Puerto Rico, where he will face pending charges against him.
“This arrest sends a clear message: those who commit violent crimes and try to hide outside of Puerto Rico will not find refuge. Our investigators tracked him to New Jersey and, thanks to the coordinated work of our fugitive teams, we were able to take him into custody. I recognize and appreciate the excellent collaboration of our partners in the state of New Jersey. U.S. Marshals, along with state and local agencies, will continue to identify, pursue and arrest violent fugitives wherever they attempt to hide,” said Wilmer Ocasio-Ibarra, U.S. Marshal for the District of Puerto Rico.
The PRVOTF of the U.S. Marshals Service and its partners remain committed to safeguarding the public and ensuring the rule of law. Community members are encouraged to share information regarding wanted fugitives by contacting the U.S. Marshals Service or their local law enforcement agency.
